Should You Have Body Contouring Done?

Body contouring is a medical procedure that is done after a patient has experienced major weight loss as a result of pregnancy or dieting and working out. This weight loss, which can occur rapidly, often leads to skin sagging. But with body contouring, patients can improve their appearance and achieve a different look that matches what they are looking for. There are two major types of body contouring, which you can find out more about here.

1, Liposuction

Liposuction can help to remove stubborn fat that doesn't seem to go away even with changes in diet or physical fitness. If you are close to your ideal weight and have skin that is firm, this procedure may be a good option for you. Depending on how much fat is removed, you will either stay overnight in a hospital or, if a smaller amount is removed, you can have someone pick you up right after the procedure.

Since liposuction permanently removes fat cells, any further weight gain in the future should distribute to other parts of your body. Recovery is fairly short, with most people able to resume everyday activities within about two weeks.

2. Surgery

Body contouring surgery is done when weight loss is more drastic. Generally, surgery is considered when your doctor has decided that liposuction would not be adequate, though they may sometimes perform liposuction on some areas and surgery on others. When your doctor describes a procedure, feel free to look up reference pictures to get an idea of what is possible and decide if it's something you would like to consider. Remember that there may be scarring, and it can take a few years before you fully see the results of your surgery.

Recovery from surgery can also take several weeks, though you may be asked to go on walks sooner than when you can return to other everyday activities, as this helps to reduce the risk of you developing a blood clot. Be sure to ask before attempting more strenuous exercises, such as running or biking.

You may need further surgeries to achieve your desired results. Reach out to a local support group if you would like to have a community to talk to as you work toward shaping your body into what you would like it to be. Remember to continue to exercise regularly after any body contouring surgery to maintain your results and reach out to your doctor if you are concerned about complications.
